My Fourteenth Frolic for 2017....

For my latest FF, I picked up another old UFO (not as old as last week's, I don't think, but still way past time it was stitched on again!)

This is called Alphabet Sampler and is from an old cross stitch magazine (I only seem to have my photocopied pages, but I think it is an old Jill Oxton mag).

When I picked it up, I only had the outer border to do.

By the end of Friday evening, I was up to here.

So, as we had the long Easter weekend, I determined to finish it before I went back to work this morning.  Let's see how I went....

That heart in the mouth moment when you hope like mad that the border matches up!

Phew! It did!

And, here we go.... Success!  All finished!

I am just in love with it!  I love the soft, antique look of it and I can't wait to get it to the framers.

My Thirteenth Frolic for 2017...

This week I picked up a very old UFO, which I had found abandoned in a large wicker storage basket crammed under the stairs!

It is Windswept Santa from The Gold Collection by Dimensions.  It is a kit and it is being stitched on Aida, which I have not stitched on for many years.

This is where I was up to, when it was abandoned.

I managed to fill in a bit of the red on his cloak.  It is rather fiddly, as there are a lot of blended threads and half stitches, which I am not sure that I like that much.  So, it may be a while before this one is picked up again. We'll see!

How's that?

A Friday Frolicking post on a Friday..how's that?

I know I don't post much here. It's because I usually like to post if I have significant progress on my WIPs/ a finish or if I have something to show which I haven't shown on my main blog.

So what did I do this morning...I FFOed a finish.

All hand sewn.. took me around 3+ hrs.I'm very happy with how this has turned out. I added simple white ric rac lace for the first time..certainly will be doing that more in future.

Noni's April Post #1

Ok... so where did the rest of February and all of March go?  I had such great plans to most on the FF blog every weekend... but I blinked and missed a month or so of weekends!  Never mind another Friday is just around the corner!

So I thought I would give you a little bit of an update on my Friday night stitching project... Faces of Joan Elliott SAL

The last time you saw this project was back in January and I was working on the Holly Fairy

I haven't done any more on her recently, instead I moved on and started the Unicorn square.

And that is as far as I have gotten with this one....

Most Friday nights I have been working on various other pieces which I haven't always taken a photo of... so I will just leave this post here for now and try and come back on the weekend with an update on this project!

Til next time,  happy stitching and may the frog not come for a visit at your house! :o)

My Twelfth Frolic for 2017....

Well, I didn't quite manage to post when I said that I would last post, however, I am, at least posting before the next Friday - lol!

For my twelfth frolic, I thought that I should get a wriggle on with my The Frosted Pumpkin's Twelve Days of Christmas.  I am happy to say that I managed to finish Day Three - Three French Hens.

Only two more days until my Thirteenth Frolic, I wonder what will come out of the WIP/UFO pile next?

Barbara from The Flashing Scissors 2017 #3

Hello Frolickers!

A couple of Fridays ago I was searching through my folders of cross stitch stuff, and rediscovered this teeny tiny pattern ....

Honey Bee Cross Stitching from Cross Stitcher 1998
"Honey Bee"
..... a freebie from Cross Stitcher, in 1998!

Back in '98 I had stitched the lower row only, and decided it was too fiddly as it is 16 hpi .... I usually stitch on 14 hpi.

Anyway, that was w-a-a-a-y before I discovered our wonderful online cross stitching community, and, as so many of my cross stitch friends stitch on very high count fabrics I thought I ought to persevere with this particular teeny tiny16 count! It could also count towards Kerry's Theme-Tas-Stitch 2017 - "March Madness"! (If you haven't read about "March Madness" you can find out more in my post HERE)

While we were out travelling on the train on Friday I added the next couple of rows, but most of the hive was stitched on Saturday, at snatched minutes during the day and evening!

Honey Bee and Stitch by Stitch
Bee Happy and my latest new start - "Stitch by Stitch"
Oh yes, last week ..... as it was still March, just!! .... I was also tempted to start another project, but this had to be stitched at home as it was rather complicated sorting all the threads .... and this was again due to Kerry's March Madness ..... (another possible reason for starting this one could well be the fact there are  scissors in the picture .... and my blog name is ????? "The Flashing Scissors" !!!)

Stitch by Stitch
"Stitch By Stitch"
and it could also count as part of "Gifted Gorgeousness" as it was part of the Giveaway I received from Jacquie Morris last year!

Today I've picked up an old project for April's Theme-Tas-Stitch ("stitch on something water related") and I intend to carry on with this for next Friday's Frolick, so hopefully I'll have photos to share again next week.

Happy Stitching everyone!!!

Hugs,

My Eleventh Frolic for 2017...

Oh dear, I am over a week late with my Eleventh Frolic and two days late for my Twelfth!  Oh well, you will get two post today! lol!

So, here goes on my Eleventh Frolic.....  Lizzie Kate's A Very Scary SAL, which I last posted about sometime in 2012!

Here is where I was up to.....

... and just a little bit of progress this time around.  I actually didn't get as much stitched as I would have liked as all of the specialty threads for this design seem to have migrated (or runaway from neglect) to other projects, so I have re-ordered them from my LNS, Lazy Daisy.

I will be quite excited to get them and get back into stitching on this design as I have nearly finished Part Two and there is only one more part after that.

hugs, Kaye

P.S. My Twelfth Frolic will be posted very soon, so please come back for a squiz!

Potions Progress

Hi, again :) It's been a while since I posted on my Friday Frolicking on my Potions, Brews, and Spells pattern. I wanted to have a few Friday's worth of stitching before I posted about it again. So here is my progress since the last time :)

I ended up with my initials and date after last week's frolicking. There is a few more cross stitch bits below this section, but a majority of it is backstitching, specialty stitches, and cross stitching over one. After I get the regular cross stitching done in this section, I plan on moving back up and leaving the bottom section until last.

I was able to get a close up photograph of the thread color. Isn't it pretty? I love the variegated purples. It has been a while since I've worked with colored silks and I don't think I've ever worked with a variegated one before. I love how it stitches up.

Maybe some day I'll be able to get a photograph of the fabric that shows its true color. My cell phone camera does whatever it wants with this fabric depending on the time of day and lighting......ugh!

Until next time ^____^

My Tenth Frolic for 2017....

..... ooops, late again!  And here it is Frolic day again Downunder but I am still frolicking about last week - lol!

So, let's get on with it!

I was a bit of a naughty girl, as, instead of picking up a WIP or UFO, you guessed it!  I started something new!!!!!!

Nutcracker Sampler....

A gorgeous nutcracker Christmas design, kindly gifted to me by the delightful Melinda from Family Business.

It is a really sweet design from an old magazine and features five different nutcrackers standing to attention all in a row, with an alphabet above and surrounded by a candy cane and heart border - just adorable - all in time-honoured Christmas colours.

Thank you so much, dear Melinda.

So, a quick post, as I promised, and now I am off to be a good girl and find a languishing WIP/UFO to work on today.

hugs, Kaye

My ninth Frolic for 2017

Sorry, a bit late with this one but it was a super busy time for me last week, so I am a bit behind with my posting (that is what happens when you go back to work three days a week - boy, does it eat into your stitching and blogging time - lol!)

Anyway, here is my ninth Friday Frolic for 2017....

Noel Blanc....

Noel Blanc
Designer: K
Designer: A  Mon Ami Pierre
Fabric: 28 ct Willow (I think that is what it is called.)
Floss: Suggested DMC threads

The true colour of the fabric is closer in the second pic. I must say it looks much prettier in real life

The last time I stitched on this piece was in August 2015!

Stay tuned for my Tenth Frolic for 2017 post coming up very soon!

hugs,

Kaye

The result of several weekends

When I pull out a project for the Friday Frolics I can't put it down just after one day of stitching, so for me it's always a weekend project. A while ago I pulled out an older WIP and worked on it for several weekends. It's Composition d'automne by Perrette Samouiloff.

This where I stopped stitching back in 2016

... and this is what I added

... and this is what the whole project looks like now.

Happy stitching,
Brigitte

My Eighth Frolic for 2017...

....  again involved a little bit of creative timing because, as seems to be the case so often and was indeed again this Friday, I was quite busy.  A very good excuse this time - I spent ALL day helping my sister move house!  So, once more I fudged a little and started my FF on Thursday and then snatched a little bit of time on Friday evening once I had settled myself in my comfy stitching chair with a heat pack for my back (sore from all that bending and lifting and unpacking boxes) and a cat to cuddle.

Firstly, I worked on finishing this sweet Spring Celebrations design by The Primitive Hare.  It is a freebie which you can find here.

I found a scrap of overdyed fabbie and just managed to squeeze the design on it but I changed all of the colours to hopefully create a very sweet, very pastel, springlike feel.

Once I had finished this piece, I was too tired to go rootling around in my Girl's Nest for an old WIP, so I settled for a more recent one, one that I am finding very soothing to stitch.

Design: Do more of what makes you happy
Designer: Abbey Rose Designs
Fabric: 32ct Grey-spotted
Floss: Mixture of suggested and own choice over-dyed threads

These pics below show you where I got up to last time I posted about this piece in January - as you can see, I am close to finishing.

Anyway, enough "rabbiting" on from me for now - off to do some laundry and hopefully some sewing in my Girl's Nest.

hugs,

Kaye

Shy Fairy Embroidery and Potions, Brews, and Spells

Hi, everyone! I hope you are enjoying the week so far. In Alabama, at least in the Mobile and Baldwin counties, we are enjoying a break from work for Mardi Gras. I have been crocheting and stitching on my break :)

I started my Shy Fairy embroidery project last Friday as my Frolicking Friday project. The kit came with some lovely soft DMC colors. Last Friday I was able to finish stitching the little fairy.

Yesterday was my 'Frolicking Friday' since I wanted a full day of stitching on my day off instead of my normal Friday of maybe two hours of stitching total.

I was able to finish up my Shy Fairy embroidery. She turned out quite cute :) I need to go by the craft store and buy a wooden hoop to display her in.

I'm sorely tempted to buy the other kits by Tamar Nahir-Yanai, but I know I have some small cross stitch patterns that I could kit up to work on when I can't see to work on my main WIP, Potions, Brews, and Spells.

After finishing up my Shy Fairy embroidery project, I stitched a bit on Potions, Brews, and Spells. I finished another row of the letters, stitched up a row of specialty stitches, and started on the motif around the word 'Halloween'.

I tried to practice the queen stitch to no avail. I just can't wrap my brain around it for some reason. It just looks wonky no matter how many times I stitch it.

So my plan is leave that stitch alone until the end......if I still can't get it, I'll just think of some other stitch to put in its place.

I hope everyone is having a good time Frolicking this week on their projects :)

Until next time ^____^

My Seventh Frolic for 2017...

.... involved a little bit of creative timing because, as seems to be the case so often, I was quite busy on Friday.  There were lots of errands to run during the day and in the evening TraderVic and I were off to see the first Heidelberg Theatre Company (HTC) play of the season, "Australia Day" (which was quite funny and satirical in parts).  So, I fudged a little and started my FF on Thursday and then snatched a little bit of time on Friday arvo.

I also fudged as to what I stitched because despite having lots and lots and lots of WIPs and UFOs that need attention my needles felt the pull of this LHN new start....   (no, this is not my finish - this is the sample photo).

Here is mine:

After Friday Frolics.

I am stitching it on 32 count grey and white-spotted fabric using my own choice of specialty threads.

I then kept stitching on it over the weekend and managed to get quite a bit more done.

So, hoping to have a finish on this one very soon.

hugs, Kaye

Bohemian Finish and a Halloween Start

Hi, everyone! I finished my Bohemian Paisley embroidery last Saturday. I tried to wash the fabric to get rid of the ink, but alas it is permanent. My next project is Potions, Brews, and Spells by Cherished Stitches. On Sunday I had ironed my fabric and stitched two numbers to get started so when Friday rolled around I wouldn't have to fuss with getting the fabric ready.

By the end of last night's stitching, I had stitched an entire row and was hoping to complete the queen stitch between the 'T' and 'Z' row, but I'm hopelessly confused on how to stitch the queen stitch despite the diagram at the back of the Just Cross Stitch magazine that has this pattern in it.

I think two factors are aiding one another to thwart me: the high stitch count (35ct....which is high for me as I usual stitch on 32ct or less) and the dark color of the fabric. Neither of the photos show the color exactly. It's 35ct dolphin by Week's Dye Works.

How do ladies/gents work on higher stitch counts than 35?!?!? It boggles my mind!

After stitching yesterday I realized that despite my Ott light, I need to invest in a magnifier because I am having a hard time seeing the stitches. Also in order for me to figure out the queen stitch, I need to pull out a scrap of linen with a lower stitch count and practice......a linen I can actually see! LOL

Anyway, I hope you guys had a good Friday Frolic :)

Until next time ^___^

My Sixth Frolic for 2017

Well, despite having to snatch some time in the afternoon to stitch (in between coffee with the girls and then a fun shopping expedition and lunch with the girls at Greensborough Shopping Plaza - most successful!) and a double date with my dear friends, Linda and Terry (dinner and a movie, Fences), I actually managed to get lots done on this week's randomly selected WIP/UFO....

Singin' in the Spring.....

Before photo (sorry about the very picture the lighting was very poor):

After (this photo is much better and the colour is truer):

Well, that is all from me for this week.

Hugs,

Kaye

P.S. I am hoping to steal more time this weekend and maybe have a finish by Sunday evening????? Fingers crossed!

Barbara from The Flashing Scissors 2017 #2

Last Friday night I stitched a few projects!

I worked on a small Tote bag for me - for my knitting - which I am aiming to write about soon over at my place! I had wanted to finish the bag as a "Friday Finish", but when I realised I had totally missed the target I picked up this Rosebud pattern again.

This was where I started again this year:

"Rosebud" - from Jane Greenoff's book -
 "55 Country Cross Stitch Charts"

Once again, I've been tempted by another gadget ..... which is now helping me to stitch a tiny bit quicker!

Previously I had been using a basic circular hoop, but I found gripping the frame, and turning it back and forth as I stitched, was making my hands and wrists hurt!

I'm really pleased with this new hoop (I expect most of you will have seen one before). It is attached to its own stand, and is the type you place on your seat, and sit upon ..... then hence have both hands free, which makes such a difference ..... the frame turns back and forth easily (but not too easily!) when needed, as one pushes the needle through the fabric!

Rosebud, from a pattern by Jane Greenoff.

Since my previous post I've finished the blue flowers, and started stitching the leaves around them, and made some progress on the leafy area above the rose!

Rosebud, from a Jane Greenoff pattern.

Are you joining in with Jo's "Secret Stitching Sweetheart Blog Hop"?

During the week I've been working on my project for the hop, which I can't share yet, of course ..... (for details about Jo's blog hop click HERE). I had meant to post this sooner, but Jo needed to receive our photos today, and I only just made it!!!!! so I didn't have time for blogging this week.

I'm looking forward to seeing who is joining in at the Blog Hop on Tuesday! See you there!

Happy Stitching everyone!

Hugs,
Barbara x
